We all have that love/hate relationship with the internet. For example, I love all the Reels & Shorts that have to do with Gen X and how cool we are, how we grew up and of course how awesome our music was and still is today.
On the flip side of the coin, I hate when things from my generation are commercialized. For example, all the Shorts & Reels that use this song as a soundtrack. Sure it tugs on the 'ol Gen X heartstrings, but it is used completely out of context.
I guess this entry moves me firmly into the "Old Fuddy Duddy" category but as a founding member of Gen X, IDGAF.
There's a reason this song immediately follows my Russians entry. Alphaville is a German band - so not only were they on the front lines of the Cold War (The East Germany / West Germany border), they were behind the front lines (the whole city of Berlin let alone those stuck in East Berlin). So even those living in West Berlin were completely surrounded by the Soviets because they were deep in East Germany.
So turning the very real anxiety of West Berlin falling to the Soviets and constant nuclear saber-rattling threatening the destruction of the world into catchy Reels & Shorts doesn't sit well with me.
Just know I see you Alphaville and every German ever affected by the Cold War.
So here's to you, "F" every generation other than Gen X!" and "F" Geo-Politics!"
