Shannon’s Perspective:
“Waited lifetimes. Say this to you.”
Those six short words hold so much meaning. I feel like they also are the key to this project. We are now sharing our thoughts, stories, feelings and so much more with each other, our children, friends, family and whoever chooses to go on this journey with us. I know Larry is planning on including the last part of what he wrote to me the first time he gave me this song and the emotions I felt when I got to the last line were so overwhelming I wasn’t sure if I would ever stop crying.
Deep breath. Let's get the nerd stuff out of the way. This song is off of the Yes album "Talk" which was released in March of 1994. It is widely credited as one of the, if not THE first album to be digitally recorded and digitally edited in its entirety. So no audio tape involved. Do not confuse this as music produced electronically (except of course the synths / keyboards). Real guitars, bass and drums. The CD came with a warning around "Extreme Digital Dynamic Range" and there are some serious bass notes that I believe could create some serious damage to audio equipment.
Jon Anderson singled this song out as a favorite from the album - so if he loves it, I love it. Quick reminder or if you're new here, Jon Anderson made a surprise appearance at our wedding way back in 1994 - or post #4: Anyone Can Light A Candle.
I know Yes is a Prog band, and they're not everybody's cup of tea. I think over the years Shannon tolerated them and then grew to appreciate, not love, but appreciate them somewhat.
So why is this song on this list?
It was on a playlist I gave her in 2017. I made the playlist and did the big reveal on a road trip to Kansas. We weren't living here yet, so Kansas was our "vacation" home. And you can get a lot of music in on a 16+ hour drive.
I won't include all the notes I had for her about this song, but I will include the final bit - because it is the most important. I meant it then - and I mean it now...
Lastly, please listen to the song and read the lyrics first. Then go to the next page.
I Am Waiting (Yes, 1994)
Am I waking to this magic
Am I seeing, all is human,
Human after all...
(I wanna be inside your heart) Are you ready?
(I wanna love forever) Are you thinking?
(I wanna be inside your heart) What I'm thinking
(I wanna know you're with me)
Highways, starways, many ways
To be open tonight
High time, look inside your life.
I am waiting
I am waiting; are you ready? Are you ready?
I am waiting; can you hear me? Can you hear me?
I happened in the water.
The heaven will fall
The break in the water
The secret birth
Said she loves me; I believe her.
Waited lifetimes, say this to you.
(I wanna be inside your heart) Are you ready?
(I wanna love forever) Are you thinking?
(I wanna be inside your heart) What I'm thinking
I wanna know you're with me
Highways, starways, many ways
To be open tonight.
High time, look inside your life
I am waiting. I am waiting.
Say you need me, I am yours.
Say you need me, just because.
(It's our freedom...)
It's our freedom, hear me now.
We are made to be here now
We'll be waiting for the word (I wanna be inside your heart)
As the healing of the world.
Make me promises, to be true, (I wanna be inside your heart)
All my life my world is you
I am waiting; are you ready?
Are you ready?
I am waiting; can you hear me?
Can you hear me?
HERE IS WHAT WAS ON THE NEXT PAGE:
I want you to know that if I die first, I am waiting…
