Shannon’s Perspective:
“Oh, don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me”
Today’s song is in honor of our son Connor and his wife Kristen. Four years ago today, they were married and this is their song.
Watching your child grow up, meet someone, fall in love and get married is so surreal. One day you are teaching them how to walk and talk, the next they are using those skills to walk down the aisle and say their vows. I honestly don’t know which is harder to believe, that my youngest is old enough to be married at all or the fact that they have been married for four years already. What is not hard to believe is how good they are for each other. I don’t think my son could have found a better partner in life than Kristen. She is an amazing young woman and I am beyond thrilled to have her as part of our family.
I remember having a conversation with my grandmother when my boys were little. She told me to always remember “A daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life but a son is a son until he takes a wife.” I always kept those words close to my heart because I knew they were so true. Once your son commits himself to someone, that someone and the family they make together is now his number one priority, as it should be. I look forward to seeing how their lives together unfold over time. I hope we have raised a son that is a good husband and partner. I hope that their lives are filled with love for each other. I hope they know Larry and I will always be here for them and will move heaven and earth for them. I hope I am a good mother-in-law. Mostly I hope they appreciate how truly lucky they are to have found each other.
“Deep in her eyes
I think I see the future”
Happy Anniversary Connor and Kristen!
I know this song for one reason and one reason only - and that makes it all the more special.
I heard this song for the first time in my life at my sons wedding reception.
Of course there were other songs that were played and I'm sure I didn't know all of them. In that kind of setting, it's hard to key into the lyrics especially for a song you don't know. But for whatever reason, I heard this one loud and clear. Besides the normal joy of a newlywed couple, it just seemed to me that this one particular song brought that extra level of happiness to them.
You can ask Shannon - every time as soon as this song starts playing I get emotional.
My youngest son is married and moving on with his life.
"Summers going fast, nights growing colder - children growing up, old friends growing older..."
My youngest son loves music - and lyrics!
My youngest son and daughter-in-law fought through the trials and tribulations of a GLOBAL PANDEMIC to have a wedding performed and find a reception venue after many, many setbacks. Ever changing health regulations and requirements. Venue headcount limitations - and closures! Minimum six feet social distancing. Masks. Parents coming in from Kansas not knowing if any gas stations on the way would let you inside to pee! Let alone buy gas!
I'd like to say it went off without a hitch, but there were a lot of hitches. But they made it happen and I couldn't be happier for them.
During the ceremony, I focused on it quite honestly more than anything I have ever focused on in my life. Because with my terrible memory, I wanted it burned into it so I could remember it as long as I could...and as of today, I can still picture it in my head...
We are always here for you whenever you need us...congratulations and keep going!
