Shannon’s Perspective:
“All my best memories come back clearly to me.”
Who doesn’t love it when they hear a song they haven’t heard in a while and good memories come flooding back.
As I was listening to my library of songs for this project, this one randomly played. This is just more a memory of other things, though they would not have come flooding back had I not heard this again.
I mean come on; you don't get much more AM friendly than The Carpenters.
It fits right in with the Songs About Music theme. For a song released in 1973, it definitely hits the mark for kids from the 1980's. Because we didn't sit around waiting to just hear our favorite songs; we waited to hear AND record our favorite songs. Although that was a PITA at the time (waiting for the DJ to shut up, hoping they didn't talk through the beginning or end, hitting the record and stop buttons at the exact right times, hoping your boombox batteries didn't die) I look back on that long lost art with fondness now.
The memories it conjures up are riding in my parents station wagon, sitting in the REAR FACING back seat as my parents rocked out to AM Radio - 610 WTVN to be specific. And I know this is where I would have heard this song for the very first time.
The Carpenters do have a lot of great songs. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my dad was a carpenter by trade.
Just a good song that deserves to be part of this project.
P.S. I need to make sure you read and understood the REAR FACING station wagon seats reference. I thought, and still think, that is an awesome way to travel.
P.P.S. Even though this post is for June 3rd, two days ago on June 1st, 2024, we hit the 25th Anniversary of the release of Napster on June 1st, 1999. Didn't need to sit around and record songs off the radio anymore! So now that I'm typing this, I have to add a reference to Weird Al's Don't Download This Song - Even Lars Ulrich knows it's wrong!
30th Anniversary
