Shannon’s Perspective:
“Stay on your island, don’t let me in.”
The Alan Parsons Project has several songs that I enjoy including this one but since Purple Rain came out a few short months after this that would have monopolized my listening time for sure.
You have, or will, hear me make a statement over and over again that 1983 was the best year of music - ever. I'm taking some liberty with this song because it was recorded in 1983, but released in February of 1984. So close enough.
This song really gained massive popularity based on the video at the time. Not as cutting edge as Sledgehammer (which came a little later), but creative all the same.
I have always been a massive Alan Parsons fan, so I was glad to see the MTV generation get some Alan Parsons love.
This is just a song I have enjoyed my entire life. And I hope Gabriel appreciates the artistry of the video.
P.S. The irony of the "island" reference in this song vs. my "island" discussion in "Here Comes the Flood" from last night is not lost on me. Totally unintentional. But maybe subliminal.
