Shannon’s Pick: Worried
“’Cause I may fly into a million pieces
And you won’t know the first from the last.”
That is exactly how I felt when Shane died and sadly for a long, long time afterwards. I have spoken about Shane’s death before and I will talk about it again, it is after all a part of who I am now, but for this post I will rely on a couple of quotes and a video I saw recently.
“I did not get over the loss of my loved ones; rather I absorbed the loss into my life, like soil receives decaying matter, until it became a part of who I am.”
“When you have siblings one of you will not experience any losses and one of you will experience them all.”
The following video from Billy Bob Thorton says everything in a way that I wish I could.
Billy Bob Thornton: I've Never Been the Same Since My Brother Died
Larry’s Perspective:
You won't often hear me say I regret introducing Shannon to different artists, and maybe regret is a strong word, or wrong word. But this song by Michael Been might be one of them.
Don't misinterpret what I just wrote - it is beautifully arranged, performed, sung, written and flirts with our Secret Wells of Emotion theme from earlier in the year.
But this song takes a nosedive into the dark and basically keeps going down - it doesn't mire and fester and there's no hero to save the day.
There are only cries for help.
After Shane died, Shannon used a line in this song to describe her state of well being. It quite literally broke me to know she was feeling this way.
...cause I may fly into a million pieces, and you won't know the first from the last...
