Shannon’s Perspective:
“I always turn the car around.”
Larry gave me this song on a playlist for my 40th birthday, before that the lyric that always stood out to me was “how many times can I break 'til I shatter?” Now it’s the one above. It’s funny how a song’s meaning can change when you hear someone else’s perspective, and this was one of those songs for me.
Larry is very much an introvert and likes to process his thoughts and feelings before talking about them, unlike yours truly who is an extrovert and likes to process her feelings while having them, this can sometimes lead to miscommunication. What Larry likes to do most to process his thoughts is to take a drive or ride his motorcycle and listen to music, which in turn makes me worry that he might decide to just keep driving, but like the lyric says, he always turns the car around.
I'm letting you in to a little LB/SB history with this one. I previously referenced where Shannon gave me some "mix-tapes" for my 40th, so of course I had to return the favor.
This was one of the songs I put on my gift to her. To provide further clarity, we didn't just give each other a stack of CD's full of songs. We wrote an opening message about the gift and then thoughts around each song.
This is my exact note from 2011:
I have a feeling you may already have a thought or two for yourself when you listen to this song (or maybe not). If you do, I am guessing they are not exactly “encouraging” and I hope this helps redirect your thinking.
I can have my dreams to head to another town, start a new life and experience new things. But if there is one thing I can’t “learn to resist” is doing those things without you.
I think we truly are Yin and Yang and provide the balance each other needs.
I always turn the car around…
