Forty years ago today the Purple Rain soundtrack was released. I believe I may have mentioned before my love for all things Prince so it should come as no surprise that we will be acknowledging the 40th anniversary. What was difficult was not reusing a previously used song from the soundtrack. Lucky for me all the songs are excellent. Also, this one just seemed perfect for the moment.
Larry’s Perspective:
First off I cannot believe this was 40 years ago - I. Am. Old.
Neither of my sisters were really Prince fans, so I only grew up with the songs that got airplay - and if this one did, I missed it. So until I met Shannon I didn't know this song, or honestly, quite a few from the album / soundtrack.
But you have to hand it to him - he was a musical genius - and marketing genius!
