Well folks, we're nearing the end. Not long now until the final entry on February 19th, 2025. The last major theme to close us out revolves around the Passing of Time. If the first few months of this project were tough, they're actually a cakewalk compared to what we're about to go through. We're getting old and life perspectives are changing as they should - AKA we're closer to dying than when we were born. Some of these songs represent the heaviest weights that we've carried since knowing them. Some are as recent as 2023 and 2024, but I know in my heart of hearts that even if they came out in 1989 they would have made this list - they are that profound to me.
So if you're an artist that made this project from here on out you should feel humble and proud...you achieved what you set out to do...make music that people feel and love...thank you.
Shannon’s Perspective:
Sometimes it takes all your strength Just to keep holding on
Well, here we are another infusion day but it was not my choice for the song today because of a memory reference for Larry so I'm gonna keep this short. I know that today and every day Larry lives the following "At the speed of love My heart goes out to you" and that is all I need to keep holding on.
The least important - this is the final Rush song for this project. This is the song I chose to represent today's life events, but it is by no means my favorite Rush song (see The Garden). I know you may be disappointed knowing there are no more Rush songs and may feel the urge to never read another entry, but I implore you, dear phantom reader(s), see this through until February 19th, 2025. Musically, I love the crispness of the snare in this song.
The semi-most important - on January 29th, 1990 I was hired at DC1 Express. I've referenced my long career many times and that it is quite the accomplishment (see The Analog Kid).
But even after 29 years there, I'm sitting right here right now with the most important "accomplishment" I ever achieved.
Had my girlfriend at the time not told me about Express hiring, I would not have even thought to get a job there. Reminder - she dumped me for another guy she started seeing while we were still together - so I did not dump her for Shannon.
There's a lot of great things about this song, but this is the reason it represents today:
We don't have to talk We don't even have to touch I can feel your presence In the silence that we share
What more could you ask to help solidify this is the person you are supposed to be with; this is the person who makes you whole; this is the person at the end of your string of fate.
I don't know if using the words relationship nirvana is what I'm looking for, but that's what those lyrics describe to me. Had I not started at Express via a word of mouth reference, had Shannon not started Express via a word of mouth reference...well I hate to ponder that scenario.
The most important reason this song is on today is because it's a Ketamine Infusion day for Shannon. While normally she always selected those songs, it's because of my hire date anniversary falling on the same day I chose the song. It is crucially important that you understand I had this song chosen for this day long before Shannon's Ketamine Infusion was scheduled for today.
I say that because of what transpired last night between Shannon and I - this song being pre-chosen for today just further convinces me we are moving right along our string of fate - because before she even types it, I know this will be her quote:
Sometimes it takes all your strength Just to keep holding on
I am so devastated right now. It's not right that someone has to live life like this. She is using all her strength to just keep holding on - for herself - for her sons - for me. But that's not living; it's existence.
When the medical community cannot / will not help; when constantly trying to convince others it's not just in your head; when the pain is unrelenting; when society isn't equipped to handle these types of situations; when your husband is powerless to help; what can / do you do?
And it's that terrible Catch 22 - Am I doing this to make her feel better or to make myself feel better?
I haven't crossed that line yet, I don't think. I still believe the things I do are to make her feel better. I still believe Love Can Heal...
Speed Of Love Music by Lee and Lifeson / Lyrics by Peart
Love is born with lightning bolts Electro-magnetic force Burning skin and fireworks A storm on a raging course
Like a force of nature, Love can fade with the stars at dawn Sometimes it takes all your strength Just to keep holding on
At the speed of love A radiance that travels At the speed of love My heart goes out to you.
Love is born with solar flares From two magnetic poles It moves towards a higher plane Where two halves make two wholes
Like a force of nature, Love shines in many forms One night we are bathed in light One day carried away in the storms
At the speed of love A radiance that travels At the speed of love Nothing changes faster (nothing changes) Than the speed of love My heart goes out to you
We don't have to talk We don't even have to touch I can feel your presence In the silence that we share
Got to keep on moving At the speed of love
Nothing changes faster Than the speed of love
Got to keep on shining At the speed of love
At the speed of love A radiance that travels At the speed of love My heart goes out to you At the speed of love Nothing changes faster (nothing changes)
Than the speed of love My heart goes out to you
At the speed of love At the speed of love At the speed of love At the speed of love At the speed of love
