Shannon’s Perspective:
“Who’s gonna pay attention to your dreams?”
Just looked it up and the album (Heartbeat City) this song is off of was released March 13,1984, no wonder when Larry and I were dancing tonight it kinda felt like I was back at a Jr. High dance. Anyway, this is Larry’s pick, and I don’t have much to say about it, but will be interested in reading what Larry has to say.
P.S. Just heard Larry’s write up and would like to say he is the “who” in my story.
Larry’s Pick: Drive
Just a classic song from a classic band.
So I think there are two opposing ways to interpret this song (again, just my humble opinion).
On one hand is the sudden realization that you have made a massive mistake that you can't walk back. You're doing some self-reflection and come to the conclusion you're all alone when you didn't necessarily need to be.
On the other hand, it's one person helping another confront their emotional scar tissue - and convincing them, by continually asking the "who" questions (which consequentially "Drives" them to answer the questions), that they will always be there for them. That whoever may have hurt them in the past, they are not going to be that person.
I'd like to think I'm the "who" in the song for Shannon.
