Shannon’s Perspective:
“Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say, “Pride will tear us both apart.””
So, this song has morphed over the years for me. When the album first came out in 1993 and I heard this song for the first time this is the lyric that stuck out for me, probably because it sounded like something Larry would say.
“But I won’t cry for yesterday. There’s an ordinary world somehow, I have to find.”
Later, after my brother Shane passed away this is the lyric that would stop me in my tracks.
“What has happened to it all? Crazy, some’d say. Where is the life that I recognize? (Gone Away).”
Now that I have health problems, this is the one that gets me.
Larry’s Perspective:
I have quite the history with Duran Duran which literally dates back to 1981, when I was 10 years old. I'll go into that history at a later date.
This is off [The Wedding Album] which came out in 1993, right after Shannon and I started dating. So of course, if you are a music person like we're a music person, anything that comes out around the time you truly fall in love is going to be burned into your memory.
This is just a catchy pop song that came into our life at that time, but like any song that stands the test of time, its interpretation can change with how your life / maturity changes.
P.S. After Shannon shared what she wrote and I added it to this page, I'm positive in the past 30 years I quoted "pride will tear us both apart" to her.
