“This place is always such a mess. Sometimes I think I’d like to watch it burn.”
Ok, so before I start this one, I’d like to reiterate that this set of songs has the theme “March Madness” so for those of you who think, “Wow that girl has a lot of mental problems”, one madness is what these songs are supposed to be about and two, “yes, yes I do”.
This song, for me, is partly about the loss of my brother Shane. There are just certain lyrics that jump out at me every time. I’m sure that has a lot to do with the fact that this song came out not long before he died, and the literal second line of the song is “that’s when they said I lost my only friend”. Losing a sibling felt exactly like that for me and in a way it’s true because if you are lucky then your siblings are your first real friends. Loss affects each of us differently and I am still working very hard to navigate the loss of my brother.
But the song is also about the craziness inside my own head, see the lyric above.
Larry’s Perspective:
I really need to hear Shannon's perspective because I just don't get this song.
