Shannon’s Perspective:
“Come a little closer now and let me in your world.”
Wow. That one little lyric perfectly captures what I feel like Larry and I are doing with this project. As we dance each night and write these things down, we are letting our families and friends come a little closer and we are letting you all into our world. We are also reconnecting and reliving the last 30 plus years of our life together. This song makes me think about Larry and me when we first started dating. Man, in some ways that seems like yesterday and in other ways it’s a lifetime ago, but through it all I am definitely his “little rebel girl”.
Larry’s Perspective:
Ohhh 2005..."Say It Isn't So" (The Outfield song reference slipped in). When I heard that blink-182 was no more, I was like NOOOOOO!!! How could my 2nd favorite trio not make it as long as Rush?
But I had to respect Tom going after what he wanted - and look where it got us! Just look up To The Stars and the Vault - and the declassified videos as confirmed by the U.S. Navy. Yes my friends, a former (and now current again) member of blink-182 made this happen. Great stuff!
And what's even greater is the music he created while on hiatus from blink - like this song and at least one more that will make an appearance later - and that one is a FANTASTIC song.
But I digress - why is this in March Madness? Because (and I will likely say it again) - I literally look to the skies and ask for the aliens to come down and take me away. More so to see everything I will never see than to escape humanity, but that is definitely an added bonus. But then I'd miss all these great songs. Shannon has no response other than WTF when I yell at the sky.
But why is this song here for us? Well, like last nights song, Shannon is my little punk Rebel Girl. And it talks about holding each other close and dancing. And I can't help but conjure up a picture of a punk Cinderella.
But here's my off beat interpretation of "back before we were broken-hearted". It's not about how someone we were involved with broke our hearts, and thankfully, not how we broke each others by being abusive or unfaithful. But there have been moments where something we said or did to each other left the other one broken-hearted. And that is always a long road back.
I also think about the people we've lost since being together. Because as you mature through life, you do learn that you are immortal for a limited time.
And that time seems to accelerate as you get older...so as opposed to "I wish 'If Only', but 'If only' is a wish too late" (The Cure reference), we're making this project happen...as opposed to "if only we could make the time..."
