Shannon’s Perspective:
Gonna do something a little different tonight because there are so many good “lyrics” to this one. Fight Club is definitely one of my favorite movies and what better way to end the “March Madness” theme than with one of the best movies about madness, IMHO. So instead of providing one lyric and doing a write up I’m just gonna list some of the best lyrics…..who am I kidding all the lyrics are the best.
P.S. Larry and I once again are on the exact same page so he will be including all the lyrics at the bottom so we don’t have them on here twice.
Parting is such sweet sorrow...goodbye March Madness...it's been fun.
All you need to know is this song is "sung" by Brad Pitt and it comes from Fight Club. If you haven't watched the movie, or have and hate it, move along. You don't get and won't understand this song.
But it's been a staple in our house since the movie came out in 1999. The movie is fantastic and shines a bright light directly on the ridiculousness of consumerism and corporate greed. I use this example from the movie all the time - because whether you want to believe it or not, it is 100% fact. Businesses are in the business of making money. Full stop. No matter what their "Mission Statement" is, or how they support community charities, or whatever else their PR firms spin - they do what's best for them.
"A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, then multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C.
A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."
Here are the lyrics to the song. Thank you Dust Brothers and Brad!
And you open the door and you step inside. We're inside our hearts. Now imagine your pain as a white ball of healing light
That's right, your pain; The pain itself is a white ball of healing light.
I don't think so!
This is your life, good to the last drop.
Doesn't get any better than this.
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.
This isn't a seminar! This isn't a weekend retreat!
Where you are now you can't even imagine what the bottom will be like.
Only after disaster can we be resurrected; it's only after you've lost everything that you're free to do anything.
Nothing is static, everything is evolving, everything is falling apart.
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life...
Doesn't get any better than this...
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life...
And it's and it's ending one minute at a time...
You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake!
You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else!
We are all part of the same compost heap!
We are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world!
You are not your bank account.
You are not the clothes you wear.
You are not the contents of your wallet.
You are not your bowel cancer.
You are not your grande latte.
You are not the car you drive!
You are not your fucking khakis!
You have to give up. You have to give up. You have to realize that someday you will die; until you know that, you are useless!
I say - let me never be complete.
I say - may I never be content.
I say - deliver me from Swedish furniture!
I say - deliver me from clever art!
I say - deliver me from clear skin and perfect teeth!
I say - you have to give up.
I say - evolve and let the chips fall where they may.
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life...
Doesn't get any better than this...
This is your life, this is your life, this is your life, this is your life
And it's, and it's ending one minute at a time...
You have to give up.
You have to give up.
I want you to hit me as hard as you can!
I want you to hit me as hard as you can!
Welcome to Fight Club.
If this is your first night, you have to fight!
