How could I not pick the System of the Down version for this song/memory? I will never be able to think about Zelda/Link or hear this song without thinking of Connor.
I may not have been able to really “game” with my kids but that did not stop me from trying or from at least hanging with them while they played. Zelda was something that Connor loved to play for a lot of years, so much so that I have a Triforce tattoo with his birthdate on my forearm. Larry went into the oopsie part of the tattoo experience so I will cover the thought process behind the tattoo. After my first tattoo I knew I wanted more so for my second I wanted it to be a “mom” tattoo, something to honor my sons. After much thought and back and forth about a lot of different ideas I was discussing it with Larry and the idea just kinda popped into my head. You see my sons share a common number in their birthdates, a 9, and on that one thing the tattoo idea was born. So, if you look at the picture you will see the numbers 8, 9 and 22, 8/9 being Gabriel’s birthdate and 9/22 being Connor’s. The symbol in between the 8 and 9 is a watermark Gabriel was using on his artwork when I got my tattoo and the symbol between the 9 and 22 is the Zelda Triforce symbol in gold, as it should be.
I apologize if I've said it before, but the Nintendo company is the equivalent of Studio Ghibli. All they want to do is create good, wholesome entertainment. If you really think about it, Nintendo hasn't really put out anything too controversial in their entire existence. That is really saying something.
Along with those family friendly games comes family friendly soundtracks. I've always enjoyed playing / watching the Zelda games enough to say that Gerudo Valley is my favorite song from the franchise. Not sure what it is - I just really enjoy it.
While we are on the subject of Zelda, let me tell you a little story of how I saved Shannon from a lifetime, permanent embarrassment. Because you don't get much more permanent than a tattoo.
While she was on her tattoo kick, she decided to get one that would enshrine both of our sons. For Connor, she decided she would get the Triforce.
Quick reminder - she gets extreme motion sickness and does not really play any games.
So we're both at the tattoo parlor and she goes back to the artists chair and I over hear her stating she wants the color Triforce. I leap into action and very politely ask "What the fuck are you talking about? A color Triforce? Where in the hell did you get that? It's Gold. Only Gold." She rattles off something about seeing something on the internet, yada, yada. I'm like "You don't have to trust me - so call Connor right now and confirm. He is the absolute final say on all things Zelda."
So she calls Connor the Oracle and he confirms two things:
1) What the fuck are you talking about? 2) The Triforce is Gold.
To this day, Shannon has a Gold Triforce tattoo...
