This song comes courtesy of the video game Portal. Let me tell you, this game and song lived happily in our hearts and souls over the years. I'll let this tidbit from Wikipedia sum up why:
It received praise for its originality, unique gameplay and a dark story and sense of comedy.
The song lyrics clearly reflect that, but understand that the song is kind of an inside joke to the game and other Valve properties.
Shannon will share some other personal nuggets, but I will add that Gabriel did a great job creating his Portal Gun out of Lego. This post by far has the most pictures, so you know this was a family affair over the years.
“This was a triumph I'm making a note here: huge success It's hard to overstate my satisfaction”
For a game I never ever played I have so many memories tied to it over the years. From the “Cake is a Lie” 18th birthday cake for Gabriel to the portal cookie jar Christmas present for Connor and then there is the Cave Johnsontalking portrait that hung in Gabriel’s room for many years. I’m so glad that the boys, all three of them, would include me in their jokes from games I didn’t play and that I would ask them questions about things. It kept me involved in a part of their lives that I couldn’t really participate in and it allowed me to quote the above lyric albeit with much less sarcasm.
P.S. The Companion Cube cookie jar is safe in my possession here in Kansas - not sure why I have it versus Connor...
