Our Perspective / Pick: Hell Bent
This is another song that we can't really recall how it came into our lives - but not the impact.
I'll admit we never went any further with Kenna, which looking back is interesting. This is such a fantastic song, so I'd imagine a lot of his other work is as well.
This song made the project list more for the music video than the song itself. Somehow Gabriel caught it, and we're thinking it was on Toonami, and since it was stop-motion claymation it immediately had his attention. I would really encourage you to click the link and watch.
At that age, I know he didn't really understand the meaning of the video or the lyrics, but I know he appreciated the artistry.
Us being the adults / parents, I suppose we did understand the meaning. That we were Hell Bent on being successful and taking care of our family - whatever trials and tribulations came our way.
It's also interesting to look upon this lyric "between pluto and god" as this song was written before those IAU bastards decided Pluto wasn't a planet. Notes for anyone interested: Prof Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), who led the team that found Eris, would later style himself as the "man who killed Pluto", while Neil deGrasse Tyson would later jokingly quip that he had "driven the getaway car".
Yes, THAT Neil deGrasse Tyson...
To me, and more importantly, Gabriel - Pluto is the 9th planet in our solar system. Always has been - always will be...
Hell Bent
Kenna
Am I the key
of fiction and heartache
and the pain
is of no consequence
when I am hell bent
my walls are
closing in
Controlling me, controlling me,
is losing me, you're losing,
control of me, control of me,
you're losing
Am I awake
the morning star
that brings me here
since everything in me
between pluto and god
all is hell bent
my walls are closing in
I feel the claim
controlling me, controlling me,
is losing me, you're losing,
control of me, control of me,
you're losing, you're losing
control of me, control of me,
you're losing me then ooyeoh
controlling me, controlling me,
yeah, said
naked, broken my world crumbling
and I can't find myself
or my way out hey
hey
la
ah ah ah
controlling me
controlling me
controlling me
you're losing me
say ooyeoh
ooyeooh
controlling me
oooh yeah
hell bent
my walls are
closing in
