Is this love worth waiting for
Bitterness will die for sure
Something special, something pure
Is this love worth waiting for
This is another song that has been on a previous "mixed tape" I gave Larry but I felt it deserved a place on this one as well. From the very beginning it talks about two people looking for something more in a relationship, something beyond the superficial things. Two people looking for a deeper connection. In my opinion, it's that deeper connection that makes a relationship work and that goes for all relationships, not just romantic ones.
When you are young it's sometimes hard to look past the superficial things, some people never look for anything more, but those superficial things fade and if there isn't a deeper connection then feelings will also fade. I'm sure that while my younger self had no idea what all would go in to finding an everlasting love she would certainly be happy to know she found it.
Larry’s Perspective:
I get another break tonight - Shannon gets the heavy lifting first. After I hear what she writes, I may have a few edits. But this is a song she gave to me years ago, and here we are 30 years later. I think I'd qualify that as everlasting...
Howard Jones is a curious one, indeed. Yes, he was a part of the second British invasion in the 1980's and had several hits. But outside of those hits, I never really got into him. For me, he's just "there". Kind of living in the gray (or grey - depending on where you live in the world).
I suppose that was always kind of a let down for me. If the radio song drew me in but there wasn't any additional substance to keep me around, you are just a "meh" artist to me. Yes, New Song was released in that immortal 1983 year of music releases, but after you get through all the other radio airplay songs, he's just kind of annoying to me.
You would think with such accomplishments as having the unofficial song for the 1984 Olympics, rocking out with Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Thomas Dolby and having Phil Collins drum / sing on one of your songs would put you on my who's who list...but no, it does not. Our relationship ended in 1989 with Cross That Line. Once I got past The Prisoner and Everlasting Love I probably said something like this to myself, which Shannon hears every time we watch a terrible movie:
"Who the hell green-lit this thing?"
He obviously has more talent than me and he's had a successful career doing what he wanted to do, so I certainly respect that.
