Shannon’s Perspective:
“Jenny and me was like peas and carrots.”
You wouldn't think an instrumental from Forrest Gump would be part of the "Secret Wells of Emotion" theme, but it is. I absolutely love this movie and the soundtrack is fantastic.
The movie came out in 1994, which was the year we got married and a mere six months later Gabriel was born. And a short 13 months after that, Connor joined the family.
Being the music / technology nerd I am, when both of my sons turned 18 I made a slide show of their lives and this is the song I used as a soundtrack. I always appreciated the ebb and flow of the music as I believe it perfectly encapsulates all that we experience in life: Life and death; triumph and tragedy; love and hate. And those themes are perfectly presented in the movie.
So looking back on my sons lives, they had experienced a lot of those themes already. Seeing them go from babies to young men in those pictures is of course emotional for a parent. Along with the thought of how many times you could have killed them over 18 years for all the stupid shit they did and they should be thankful they are still alive.
Shannon and I have "our" movie, and then there are those that in some way, shape or form provide a parallel to us - "art imitating life" as it were. I definitely feel Forrest Gump is one of those movies, and maybe that is why I love it so much.
Call me Forrest if you want to - I don't care. I'll wear it like a badge of honor.
