Shannon’s Pick: This Is the World Calling

    "This is the world calling
    God help us
And it goes on, and on, and on"

As society become more and more addicted to our devices and we become more tribal and more selfish at a time when we can literally hear a heartbeat ringing across the universe I feel like we are missing the opportunity to get closer and are instead becoming more isolated. Collectively we are more alone now then ever before and I don't see that changing anytime soon, so here's to the opportunity to course correct collectively as human beings on the planet earth and F those who are a part of the problem and not the solution.

    Larry’s Perspective:

You would think with my Pink Floyd "The Wall" obsession I would be the one choosing this "Pink" song - but this one is on Shannon.

I never really got into The Boomtown Rats or even Bob Geldof as a solo artist. This is one of the few songs by him I know - curious to see why Shannon put this on the project.

As I reflect on the lyrics, I hone in on these:

"What we gonna to do, because it cannot go on?
What we gonna to do, because it cannot go on?
So, wrap me in your arms and baby keep me warm tonight
    "

...which then later leads into this:

"And it goes on, and on, and on"

That's where we are in life. You get so exasperated and say to yourself "surely this can't go on - I have to catch a break sometime". But it does go on. And you just push through. And hopefully you have someone that will wrap you in their arms and keep you warm.

    This Is the World Calling
    Bob Geldof

    I hear a heart beat
It's ringing out across the universe
It sounds so lost and lonely
It must come from somewhere deep inside of us
    And the operator says:

"All is calm an' all is quiet
Close your eyes an' sleep tonight"

This is the world calling (All is calm an' all is quiet)
This is Earth (Close your eyes an' sleep tonight)
This is the world calling (All is calm an' all is quiet)
This is us (Close your eyes an' sleep tonight)

    I'm on a train now
I'm moving through the yellow fields of rape
    There's so much beauty
I wished that I believed enough to pray
    Then the operator replied:

"Spinning 'round, you're wrapped in blue
There's no one looks as good as you"

This is the world calling (Spinning 'round, you're wrapped in blue)
This is us (There's no one looks as good as you)
This is the world calling (Spinning 'round, you're wrapped in blue)
This is us (There's no one looks as good as you)
This is the world calling (Spinning 'round, you're wrapped in blue)
This is us (There's no one looks as good as you)
And it goes on, and on

What we gonna to do, because it cannot go on?
What we gonna to do, because it cannot go on?
So, wrap me in your arms and baby keep me warm tonight
What we gonna to do, because it cannot go on?
What we gonna to do, because it cannot go on?
So, wrap me in your arms and baby keep me warm tonight

    This is the world calling
    This is us
    This is the world calling
    This is us
    This is the world calling
    This is us
    This is the world calling
    God help us
And it goes on, and on, and on

(Where all is calm and all is quiet)
    (Close your eyes, sleep tonight)
This is the world calling (All is calm and all is quiet)
    (Close your eyes, sleep tonight)
This is the world calling (All is calm and all is quiet)
    (You look beautiful tonight)
This is the world calling (Spinning 'round and that is you)
(There's no one else as good as you)
    This is the world calling
All is calm and all is quiet
    Close your eyes, sleep tonight
    This is the world calling...
