So many different things in this song but it’s really the end (part IV. I’m Alive) that gets me every single time. The first three parts generally make me stop and think and sometimes get an emotional reaction from me but as soon as I hear “Only when you looked” I cannot stop the dam from bursting open. I believe everyone has a light side and a dark side and when my dark side takes over it is Larry with his light that helps shine the way for me and I do the same for him. It has been this way for us from the first time we had an actual conversation with each other. As friends first, we tried to really listen to each other’s stories of heartbreak and pain and it was through this complete openness with each other that we discovered that we had a special bond.

This is one of my most treasured CD's that came out in 1989. This song, along with Quartet, are buried deep in my heart. It's hard to describe how beautiful this song is to me, so I won't even try. This is the only album ABWH put out and I think it is better than any Yes album ever released. I have to believe the original CD may be a little hard to come by nowadays so that's why I treat mine with white gloves.
To clarify the group, it's made up of various members of Yes: Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe. You'd have to know all the political BS surrounding Yes over the years to understand why I think they just called the band ABWH instead of coming up with a better name, but that's just my opinion.
This song reminds me of Shannon's thoughts on A Face in the Crowd - there are minimal lyrics, but the music combined with Jon Anderson's voice was meant to be. I hope someone someday feels this song as deeply as I do if this post exposes them to the song.
Relative to Quartet
First I have to say how much I love the fact that Shannon loves this song - and put up with my ABWH playing over the years.
There so much in Quartet that touches on our relationship journey:

I've always loved this line - because it makes we wonder how does someone even come up with a line / idea / concept like this:
