Larry is right, I'm not much of an Enya fan. But after hearing and reading his write-up, this now makes the short list of Enya songs I'll listen too.
I told you I struggled / still struggle with the loss of Nina. But this song is dedicated to all our rescues, and to all the rescues throughout the world.
Sometimes I think we don't actually sit back, look at ourselves and really give ourselves credit for things we feel internally that we do really, really well.
I'm going to take a minute for myself on this song. Because one of the things I do internally, and feel I do a pretty damn good job at, is empathizing and really trying to see things from another - or another's - perspective.
The story of Hachi's loyalty guides me when I listen to this song - because in my mind it's not only Nina, but every abandoned Akita singing it to their first owner who gave them up. And I feel that just as deeply as we care for our Akita's, they all return it ten-fold to us. And even though they were abandoned, I know they still feel a little something for everyone that came into their lives.
Cliff notes: Pretend you're the rescue singing this song and dedicating it to every human that called you "theirs".
