Breathe (Angels & Airwaves)

Well folks, we're nearing the end. Not long now until the final entry on February 19th, 2025. The last major theme to close us out revolves around the Passing of Time. If the first few months of this project were tough, they're actually a cakewalk compared to what we're about to go through. We're getting old and life perspectives are changing as they should - AKA we're closer to dying than when we were born. Some of these songs represent the heaviest weights that we've carried since knowing them. Some are as recent as 2023 and 2024, but I know in my heart of hearts that even if they came out in 1989 they would have made this list - they are that profound to me.

So if you're an artist that made this project from here on out you should feel humble and proud...you achieved what you set out to do...make music that people feel and love...thank you.

Larry’s Pick: Breathe

There wasn't any rhyme or reason as to why this song is on this particular day, but after yesterday, I think it is perfectly aligned for this project.

I want to revisit yesterday somewhat. I'm really, really grateful that my dad's passing anniversary was on a Sunday. Sometimes it's the only day of the week I don't work and I needed the whole day - and I do mean the whole day - to nibble away at it.

I'm going to reinsert the reason she gave me Secret World in the first place:

Secret World – “All the places we were hiding love. What was it we were thinking of?” Whenever I hear these lines all I can think of is how truly closed off both of us were in the beginning, only letting each other in so far for fear of being hurt. And only when we began to open up to each other and ourselves did we realize all the places we were hiding love.

This was very true - and based on the fact I just opened up after 15 years regarding what that song meant to me, means we are still learning about each other - and forgiving each other - and supporting each other - and holding each other. We have fought some pretty tough battles over the years and come through bloody, beaten and scarred, but we did it together. Had Shannon already known what this song meant to me, it would have been included earlier in the year under our Secret Wells of Emotion and We Expose Our Insecure Spots tags. But on our journey, it was meant to be right where it was under Life Event and Passing of Time...

On to Breathe - this song is a complete thank you to Shannon as well as a homage to the string of fate:

My hands are tied
To worlds unknown
And this I know

It's helping me get through days like yesterday that embodies this line:

You make me feel alive

And musically, I love how Tom sings this line, and what it has meant over the past year. This project was more about hearing and slow dance connecting in silence than it was speaking. So it was nice to deviate from the norm.

We speak too much

You might find this shocking after this entire year of pouring my life onto the internet, but honestly, I haven't said "I Love You" enough to Shannon over the course of our relationship (more on that at a later date). So during the course of selecting songs, this one had to be part of it, at the end where I was putting all of the most important songs.

So I could dance and "sing" it to her and mean every word...

Shannon’s Perspective:

You make me feel alive
And I'll love you
Until the end of time.

It is such an amazing thing to know that you are loved so completely and deeply by the same person you love so completely and deeply.

P.S. As beautiful as I think the lyrics are just to read they are made even more beautiful when sung by Tom Delonge, so if you get a chance to listen to this one you really should.

Breathe
Angels & Airwaves

A blue, black shade of love.
Sent from above.

My hands are tied
To worlds unknown
And this I know.

Your breath's like wine
And just like clouds
My skin crawls

It's so divine
The sky it glows
With fields of light

Did you know - that I love you?

Come and lay with me - I love you

And on this day - I love you

You make me feel alive

And I'll love you...until the end of time

My hands shake clasped with fear as you come near

To say goodnight
Just like a dove
A peaceful sign

To help us by
As you come in
Let this begin

Stars fall like dust
Our lips will touch
We speak too much

Did you know - that I love you?

Come and lay with me - I love you

And on this day - I love you

You make me feel alive

And I'll love you...until the end of time.

Did you know - that I love you?

Come and lay with me - I love you

And on this day - I love you

You make me feel alive - and I'll love you

Until the end of time...

I've got a lot to say - If you will let me

It's always hard - when you're around me
But here right now - there's interest in your eyes
So hear me out - and hear this the first time

That I... love you
(come and lay with me)

That I... love you
(and on this day)
I... love you

(You make me feel alive)
And I'll love you
Till the end of time
...
