I always loved this song and 14 year old me would have been thrilled to go see a concert, any concert, yes, even this concert.

Larry’s Pick: Everytime You Go Away

Please, no comments from the peanut gallery. I'm as shocked as you are that there's a Paul Young entry in this year long journey.

I also want to call attention to the fact that I actually have my concert ticket from November 7th, 1985 AND that it was only $12.50 TAX INCLUDED!

My very first concert, ever. And that is the sole reason Paul Young is part of this journey. Everyone has a first concert, and this is mine.

Am I proud that at the tender age of 14 (literally almost 15) Paul Young was my first concert experience? That would be a resounding No. So that does fall into the Apollo 13 sarcastic intent behind the line "proud, happy and thrilled".

I was actually invited to attend this concert with my best friend Jason Innes. And he was going because his mom was obsessed with Paul Young. It was pretty obvious she had the hots for him - but I didn't care - because I was going to my first concert!

As it was, me getting permission to attend caused a huge uproar in my household. My older sister (see the Come Undone entry) was DENIED multiple times from my parents to see Duran Duran - multiple times. As a matter of fact, when I went to this concert she had not been to any concerts - at all. So she was super-pissed that her younger brother was getting to go to a concert and she still hadn't.

I can understand both sides - as parents, it's probably pretty hard to let your daughter head out for the first time without you.

As a kid in the 80's - not being allowed to see someone you absolutely love is pretty tough.

Well, that's my story...thanks Jason and Jason's mom!

P.S. Fun Fact - did you know that Paul Young landed singing the opening line for the Band Aid song Do They Know It's Christmas?

"It's Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid, at Christmas time, we let in light and we banish shade"

Well now you do!
