No Easy Way Out (Robert Tepper)

Shannon’s Pick: No Easy Way Out

“But I'm feelin' like a prisoner
Like a stranger in a no named town”

Well let's add another “F” to the list……”F” this town. In 1985 when this song came out on the Rocky IV soundtrack, well 14-year-old me felt these lyrics deep in her soul about good ol' Saint Francis, Kansas. I mean it was 1985 there was no internet, hell most people didn’t even have home computers. Most of the radio stations my little town received were full of farm reports and country music. There was nothing for an outcast to do but get in trouble, which I did my fair share of and probably more than my fair share. So yeah, I could not wait to get the hell out of this place.

“There's no easy way out
There's no shortcut home”

There was no easy way out and that’s for sure. Try as I might I could not find a shortcut “home”. At 14 I considered Ohio to be my home; that’s where I spent my summers, and that’s where I wanted to be permanently. Now though, looking back, I realize home is really wherever Larry is. But the universe had a plan for us and there was not going to be a shortcut for us to get to each other. We both had things we needed to experience and go through first. Now I’m back in this one horse town and this time I have Larry by my side, plus there is also the internet now.
