“I'll be around If you don't push me down I'll be around If you don't let me down”
I have always loved this song from the first time I listened to it on this day 31 years ago. It is such a well written song about the frailty of love and relationships and maybe that is why I love/loved it so much. We were in the beginning of our relationship at this point, not even a year yet, and we were having all the types of conversations the song speaks about.
P.S. We still haven’t won the lottery. I don’t think Larry ever beat his Tetris score. I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again but I’m so glad we held onto all these Mementos over the years.
How lame is that note from 1993? We hadn't even been a couple for a year yet. But there are a lot of bolts from the blue in this reminder.
- The ever present reminder that we worked on opposite shifts - Rush had literally just released the Counterparts album 2 days earlier on 10/19/93; hence the reference to song # 10 (Cold Fire) - At one point we had 13 cats; I can't remember how many we had in this moment but we definitely had my cat Mossimo (yes after the clothing line) - The ever present "we need to win the lottery" exasperation - and we didn't even have kids yet! And we still haven't won (mainly because we've never really played, LOL) - The reminder that we used to play Tetris ALL. THE. TIME. How hot is it that I had a "gamer girl" in 1993? - And my P.S. too cool saying that is a real groaner.
Relative to Cold Fire - it's as close to a love song that Rush ever did. Again, just the genius of Neil's writing abilities at work - really thinking through both lovers' perspectives.
P.S. How was I to know that Mossimo Giannulli's involvement in the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal would happen. Mossimo and his wife, actress Lori Loughlin, were convicted of bribing University of Southern California officials with up to $500,000, to secure enrollment of their two daughters.
P.P.S. In the My Kind of Town entry, you can see Connor styling in his yellow Mossimo hat...which Shannon thinks we still have somewhere! Vintage Mossimo has to be worth something!
