“Just ‘cause you’re right that don’t mean I’m wrong.”
Thirty-two years ago, two complete strangers were becoming friends very quickly. This was because they had so many things in common. They both came from small towns. They both thought their families were a little bit crazy. They both loved movies and they also both loved to read. But it was the love of music that dominated many of their conversations. It was also this love of music that eventually brought them together as a couple.
Well, this is it. The very first tape I got from Larry. Notice I did not call it a mixtape because this was not that, it was just a tape with the Outfield on one side and Boston on the other. Something that one friend made for another friend.
Larry’s Perspective:
This is the tape that started it all. I had spent my life loving music with my friends - read a bunch of dudes. So when I came across a girl that said she loved The Outfield and Boston, it was like winning the lottery. And due to her personal situation of moving to Ohio and not really having access to music she loved, how could I not give her a tape?
For those that never did it - when you made someone a mixtape, it was the audio version of writing this type of note and having your friend pass it along to your crush: DO YOU LIKE ME? CIRCLE "YES" OR "NO".
So it is important you understand Shannon's point - I just wanted her to reconnect with music she loved and had something to listen to on the way to work and home.
It's also important you understand - mixtapes were not far behind this one...
P.S. It's probably obvious, but I wrote the song lists and Shannon wrote the album sticker. Also, it's hard to listen to them knowing two of the original three are gone...
