Mortal Kombat (Techno Syndrome) (The Immortals)

Shannon’s Pick: Mortal Kombat (Techno Syndrome)

We did not have a song that inspired a name for our second child if they were to be a girl but we did have a name picked out none the less. Unlike Gabriel, we did actually try to find out what we were having with Connor, twice. Both times he had his legs crossed and would not let us find out what he was hiding, so had Connor been a girl he would have been named Hannah Louise. Even though this song did not inspire a name it is still important for two reasons.

One….as a one-year-old Gabriel loved loved loved this song. He would listen to it as loud as I would let him and just dance around the house like a madman. Even at a very young age he liked the sound of electronic music.

Two….I am convinced going to see this movie is what put me into early labor with Connor. In the theater this movie (and especially this song) was so overwhelming loud that I have no doubt Connor wanted to know what was going on outside the comfort of the womb, because it wasn’t too many days after seeing this movie Connor was born, three weeks before his due date and one year, one month, one week and six days after his older brother’s birth.

Larry’s Perspective:

This type of music is right up Gabriel's and my alley - I think it might be ADHD related.

I'm pretty sure we went and watched this at the theatre in Westerville, Ohio but 1995 was a long time ago. I do, however, vividly remember the soundtrack playing in the auditorium and I'm positive the punk teenager running the projection both had the volume turned up to 11. Shannon is absolutely right that this may have been the loudest movie we've ever seen, up to and including today!

Truth be told, the boys and I never really got into fighting games. We might have played some of the Mortal Kombat or other fighting games every now and then, but we just weren't into them. Except Super Smash Brothers.

But in 1995, this movie was all the rage so we checked it out. Especially since it had the Highlander Christopher Lambert in it as Lord Raiden!

P.S. No - we did not take one year old Gabriel with us to the movie...
