Bodies (Drowning Pool)

Shannon’s Pick: Bodies

“One, nothing wrong with me.”

Man, oh man did Connor really love this song when it came out. I can still hear him singing it. This song makes me think about traveling back roads from Lancaster to well pretty much anywhere to be honest, most of the time backroads were quicker and generally safer because there was less traffic.

The boys and I would use these roads in the summers of 2001 to 2004 when we would sometimes meet Larry instead of waiting for him to get home from work for the “changing of the guards” (this is what we called the times when we worked separate shifts so one of us could be home with the boys).

It was during this time the boys and I found one hilly road in particular that if taken at the correct speed in the right vehicle could produce the same butterflies in the stomach that a roller coaster would. I loved driving that road with them. I loved looking in the rearview mirror at their smiling happy faces and listening to them laugh all the while trying to sing. These half-hour trips were filled with a lot of conversation, a lot of laughter and a lot of singing. This was one of the songs that got a lot of airtime.

Larry’s Perspective:

Long before parents exploited their children for "Likes" and "Views" and "Money", there was a time where music loving parents would just have music playing so everyone could just enjoy it.

Of course, as a parent you work to filter out your playlist based on your child's age and intellect, but sometimes you just said "fuck it" because this song rocks.

I can't really recall if Gabriel liked this song, but yes, Connor loved it.

IIRC, he loved the whispering "Let the bodies hit the floor" followed up with the overly dramatic "FLOORRRRRRR!" But I also remember the counting as Shannon quoted.

I'll also pause to A) Pat ourselves on the back, and B) Recognize that we were fortunate to live our work lives the way we did. There were some serious sacrifices in order for us to work opposite shifts as opposed to having childcare and Shannon talking about these funs memories makes every single one of these sacrifices worth it.
