Shannon’s Pick: Every Rose Has Its Thorn

“I listen to our favorite song playing on the radio”

I do listen to it playing on the radio, but the “our” in this story is not Larry, it is my other soulmate, Kim.

When Larry and I began dating in 1992 his best friend Aaron was dating a girl named Kim, both of whom Larry grew up with and went to school with.  Kim and I did not like each other the first time we met, which we both like to laugh about, but it took one fateful night, New Year’s Eve 1992, for the two of us to form a bond that has lasted 30 plus years.  Let’s just say there is nothing like driving around Columbus, (and I do mean that literally since the 270 outer belt goes all the way around Columbus) complaining about how much our BF’s sucked to get this female friendship started.

So, on this night, July 21, 2001, Kim and I went to see Poison and Warrant at an outdoor concert for free.  The concert itself was not free but the tickets we got were.  It was on that night and after several drinks that we decided this song would forever more be “our” song and to this day when it plays, we will text each other that its playing.  There are so many inside jokes from that night but the best is this song.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. I believe "Glam Slam Metal Jam" as printed on the tickets says everything you need to know about this "artist".
