Shannon’s Perspective:

“Some say…. (IYKYK)”

This song is from a memory reference for Larry so I will let him get into that but I will tie into it a bit because of the driving aspect. When the boys were little and they started asking questions about sex, we jokingly decided I would have “the talk” with them if Larry would teach them to drive, so I did have that talk with both of them. And when they were old enough to begin driving lessons, I reminded Larry of this deal. It was mostly for my own sanity but I also did not want to scare my child from driving altogether. See I did go out, once, with Gabriel and that did not go well. I was so freaked out that he was going to kill us both that I figured Larry was better suited for the driving lessons. So, he did the road practice and I did the practice with the cones in the parking lot. That was way better and I definitely feel like I got the better end of that deal.

P.S. To this day I am not comfortable riding in a vehicle with my older son driving. And on that terrible bombshell that’s it for tonight.

Larry’s Pick: Jessica (TABB); Jessica (Top Gear)

Screw The Allman Brothers Band version - the only reason you should know this song is Top Gear. I will loudly and proudly say, that no matter what Jeremy Clarkson does - I will never cancel him. This "holy-trinity" (Jeremy, Richard and James) is just as important to me as my other "holy-trinity".

One makes me more intellectual and the other literally makes me laugh my ass off like nothing else on this planet can.

But I should probably back up to add some context. There is a UK show called Top Gear (don't worry about any other countries version - they all suck) that I used to watch religiously. The hosts were hilarious, the car segments were great and the adventures they did were amazing. The BBC fired Jeremy Clarkson, so Richard and James quit the BBC and they all signed with Amazon to create a show called The Grand Tour. Which ironically, just today, it's basically been confirmed that there will be no more The Grand Tour, save for one last special that I believe has already been taped.

On Top Gear, they had a segment called "Star In A Reasonably Priced Car" where they would have stars drive their track several times to learn it, and then they would go out and try to set their best time - which was then ranked against all the other stars that had already been on the show. Here's the history of the track (which is gone now) and the rankings of the stars.

As with all race tracks, the straights and corners all had names - the very last corner was named "Gambon" after Sir Michael Gambon (you should watch it - it's hilarious!).

Now neither Gabriel or Connor have quite the same affection for cars as I do, but Gabriel did have somewhat of an appreciation for Top Gear's shenanigans over the years as well as The Stig (just read the wiki).

So when it came time for the boys to learn to drive, I kept my eye out for anything that would help educate them, and luckily, I registered Gabriel (and later Connor) for a free event that had both classroom and real world experience sponsored by The Mid-Ohio School (this is professional race car driving; not a high school driving school).

I could not have been more proud when Gabriel got out of the skid car, beaming from ear to ear about the experience. And laughing his ass off about the cones that were killed and wanting to name a corner after himself - hence "Gabe-on" versus "Gambon".

Just a great, great memory tying together two things I love...
