Breakfast At Tiffany’s (Deep Blue Something)

Shannon’s Pick: Breakfast At Tiffany’s

“And I said, "Well, that's the one thing we've got"”

Remember back when I said, “get someone who gets you”? This is a perfect example of why. I’m sure by now you’ve realized that Larry and I like to lean into the things we are good at….and by things, I mean sarcasm. Larry and I definitely lean into the sarcastic side of our personalities and that works for us. This is the song we quote when things aren’t going well, whether that’s just life in general or our relationship in particular, this is what pushes the reset button so we can have the hard discussions.

When we get to a point where things feel like this:

“You'll say we've got nothing in common
No common ground to start from
And we're falling apart
You'll say the world has come between us
Our lives have come between us
Still I know you just don't care”

Then one of us will say:

“And I said, "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"”

We have never seen the movie, either collectively or individually, but sometimes the one “thing” we got is this song about the movie and sometimes all it takes is one thing.

Larry’s Perspective:

Oh what fun it is to be a smartass. And for the most part, it's fun to be married to one.

Look - you're not always going to get along. There have been some pretty epic "not get alongs" in our marriage and it's during those special moments that this tongue-in-cheek song comes in. When the marriage is crumbling down for whatever reason and it feels like there is absolutely no reason to continue or that it feels like we have nothing in common anymore...well...we have this song.

It's the one thing we've got, and Scout's Honor, we have never even seen the movie Breakfast At Tiffany's. And we probably never will.

And no offense to any Deep Blue Something fans out there - but with all my vast music knowledge, I cannot name any other songs from this band...
