The Silence Remains (3 Doors Down)

Shannon’s Pick: The Silence Remains

“Lay down rest here in peace in my arms now
Knowing you're safe
From the storms and the rain
And from all of your pain”

Whenever I hear this song it’s like Larry is singing it in my head. This song perfectly describes how safe and loved Larry makes me feel so instead of interpreting the lyrics I will just leave them right here…

… This world asks for so much
Despite what you give it's just never enough
Then you're left cold tired and alone
Searching for something that's already gone
You try not to be afraid
Bound down by all of these
Things that they say
And you feel like you're all by yourself
But I’ll be right here
When there's nothing else

… Lay down rest here in peace in my arms now
Knowing you're safe
From the storms and the rain
And from all of your pain
And I’ll be here when
Only the silence remains
Only the silence remains

… Your fears they know that you're scared
Wherever you go they seem to meet you there
And you face them all on your own
Never the weak always the strong
And you win most of the time
Never once claiming that victory's mine
And you carry this burden alone
But this candle's burned at both
Ends for so long

… Lay down rest here in peace in my arms now
Knowing you're safe
From the storms and the rain
And from all of your pain
And I’ll be here when
Only the silence remains
Only the silence remains

… Lay down lay down
Lay down

… Lay down rest here in peace in my arms now
Knowing you're safe
From the storms and the rain
And from all of your pain
And I’ll be here when
Only the silence remains
Only the silence remains lay down
Rest here in peace in my arms now
Knowing you're safe
From the storms and the rain
And from all of your pain
And I’ll be here when
Only the silence remains
Only the silence remains

Larry’s Perspective:

Historically this song just floated by me. And I know Shannon interprets this as me as her protector.

But 30+ years is a long time - and it has to be a two way street in order to work.

Not that I am a great giver of advice, but at one point I had two direct reports that had recently been engaged or married and we all happened upon a conversation about my marriage longevity. I shared that I view our marriage as a 51% vs. 49% at all times - but who has the 51% is constantly changing - and IMO it needs to fluctuate.

This song make me think about all the times Shannon was the person I needed because "this world asks for so much".
