Landing In London (feat. Bob Seger) (3 Doors Down)

Shannon’s Pick: Landing In London (feat. Bob Seger)

“You've got to understand it's a hard life,
that I'm going through”

When looking for songs for this project I was listening to things I had not listened to for a while, and this was one of those songs. I really enjoy 3 Doors Down but this one was not on my usual rotation when listening to them. This time though, this song just hit in a different way. I know the song is more about missing someone, especially from the point of view of a touring musician, but for me this time around it’s all about the loneliness of being ill and home alone a lot.

But it’s also about having someone to lean on, someone that makes you feel the following lyrics:

“I need your love to hold me up
When it's all too much to bear”

I know I can always count on Larry to make sure I’m taking care of myself……

“And when the night falls in around me
And I don't think I'll make it through
I'll use your light to guide the way
'Cause all I think about is you”

Larry’s Perspective:

Although this is a Shannon pick, it touches me deeply. Because I know it means a lot to her, and it means I mean a lot to her. Not just in the sense of a loving husband, but that I am her rock; her support mechanism.

I know this is terrible to say - but in my past, I have a very good friend that was in the hospital over Christmas right after he got his cancer diagnosis. What's terrible is the full weight of that situation that he was experiencing (in the hospital over the holiday, let alone his cancer) as well as everyone else in there, did not hit me until I walked in those doors to visit. At that moment, and every holiday since, I now understand the emotions everyone that has experienced that goes through.

This song is somewhat an embodiment of that with Shannon. I've known people with various health concerns, but unfortunately it took our personal situation to move my empathy and understanding to a deeper level.

I'm not one to dwell on the question "what is my purpose in life", but after watching the third episode of The Last of Us, I began to think about it, and could only arrive at one conclusion. Shannon is my purpose...
