Time to Say Goodbye (Produced and Arranged by Hans Zimmer; performed by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli)

Shannon’s Perspective:

"Did we just become best friends?"

Larry’s Pick: Time to Say Goodbye OSCARS; Time to Say Goodbye Step Brothers

Coming in a very, very close second to my love of music is my love of movies. And Shannon is right there with me on this. Hell - I drove THREE HOURS one way to watch the THREE HOUR Oppenheimer movie in IMAX and then drive THREE HOURS back home. So a NINE HOUR day to watch a movie. And yes, it was worth it. And yes, even though I was shocked Christopher Nolan didn't have Hans Zimmer score the soundtrack, I tip my hat to Ludwig Göransson. I thought his score was fantastic.

Why do I mention movies? Oh come on - there's only one reason you should know this song. And if it isn't because of Step Brothers, we are no longer on speaking terms. The movie itself is classic, but their performance of this song at the end is the best.

So how does this fit into this list?

First - let's rewind to the 2024 Oscars. As a reminder, this is when pretty much anyone who has anything to do with movies gathers in one room. Jokes are made, awards are presented, people are remembered. That last callout is usually referred to as the "In Memoriam" segment. And AN ABSOLUTE GENIUS decided that they would have Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo Bocelli perform this song. For the In Memoriam segment.

So if I'm just a nobody in Western Kansas thinking "It's the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer" instead of honoring those who we lost over the past year, what do you think an entire room of Hollywood people in Hollywood was thinking? I'll tell you what they were thinking. They were thinking "It's the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer".

Honestly - I was laughing so hard during the whole segment, I couldn't believe they did it. Bravo Oscars production team, bravo. Was it sarcasm? Was it poor taste? Was it comedy genius? That's the great thing about any of the arts - it's all up to individual interpretation.

Second - It's April 30th, 2024 - the last day in April. And so it's Time To Say Goodbye to our "Release The Sarcasm!" theme. We had a great time picking the songs, reliving memories and sharing thoughts. I'm sure a few more sarcastic songs will creep in later because we still have a long way to go until February 19th, 2025. So on to the next theme in May!

P.S. I swear to god this is a true story. While I was a Senior Ops Manager for Victoria's Secret Direct, one of the responsibilities I had, had to do with vendor scorecarding. At this point in time, I was working with the best team over my 29 year career. We all tried not to take work-life too seriously while accomplishing some pretty phenomenal things. One of our vendors was named Prestige. Well being the fantastic leader I was, I asked the Supervisor over Vendor Compliance if he could get me the latest scorecard for Prestige Worldwide. He was aware of Step Brothers, but this request went right over his head. I don't remember how long his Manager and I let him do the research to try and find everything he could for Prestige Worldwide. We all had a great laugh, and he was a fantastic sport about it. Again - best team I ever worked with...
