“Wimoweh Wimoweh Wimoweh”
I know Larry mentioned in the Jump write up for the movie Ready Player One that the kids weren’t really the movie going type but that wasn’t always the case. When they were younger, they loved going to the theater to see movies with us or better yet, they loved renting a movie and all 4 of us watching it together at home and The Sandlot was one of those movies and this song makes up part of the soundtrack. That movie had a way of bringing all four of us into the same room every time. It is such a good movie and I have fond memories of all of us watching it. As the boys got older, I would take joy, as many mothers do, not watching the movie itself but watching my sons watch it and listening to their laughter and trying to burn it all into my memory.
P.S. I forgot that this song was also in the Lion King which was Gabriel’s absolute favorite movie as a toddler. He would make us watch it every day (sometimes multiple times a day) until Connor decided it was time for Toy Story to be the daily movie. TBH I was fine watching either of those, it was better than the 1985 Star Wars cartoon Droids they fell in love with that would literally put me to sleep every time we watched it.
Larry’s Perspective:
Based on all my music love and being a band-geek, you'd probably think I'm not very athletic - and that would be mostly correct.
I've dabbled in doing SCCA over the years, participated in Grudge nights at National Trails Raceway AND played Little League Baseball.
And on April 7th, 1993 (31 years ago today) one of the greatest movies of all time was released: The Sandlot.
Now this was right after we started dating and before our sons were born - but believe me, once they were old enough and we needed TV to babysit for us occasionally (not like kids today who 100% of the time have a tablet or phone in their hands) this movie was in the rotation. And my sons loved it.
So it felt right paying homage to the movie and the memories of watching this as a family - multiple times over.
And if you don't think it's one of the best movies ever, we can't be friends.
