Wave of Mutilation (Pixies)

Shannon’s Perspective:

“I’ve kissed mermaids. Rode the El Nino.”

I am pretty sure I heard this song for the first time when I saw the movie Pump Up the Volume. I’m also pretty sure that even though this movie came out in 1990, I never saw it until Larry and I watched it together, so late 1992 at the very earliest. I enjoy the song and the movie but don’t have much to say about it. Looking forward to hearing Larry’s take, as always.

Larry’s Pick: Wave of Mutilation

Here's another tidbit about me personally. And again, all of these song write-ups are so my future family has a little insight into old man Barnes.

It's always weird for a dude to idolize another dude - at least for my generation. But I will proudly state I love Christian Slater. As soon as I watched Gleaming the Cube (or whatever the hell they call it nowadays) I was hooked. I loved his acting style and his personality. And when you watched that movie, if Tony Hawk was in it, you knew the rest of the Bones Brigade had something to do with it behind the scenes. Hollywood couldn't skate that good.

Side note: Watch the Bones Brigade documentary. Those kids had the exact mentor they needed, and that's why they're all successful in their own right today.

So a little over a year later, in the fall of 1990, Pump Up the Volume comes out. So both of these movies came out as I was graduating high school - and we all know how impressionable we are and how we act like complete jackasses at that age.

So now I'm faced with a movie ABOUT MUSIC THAT I LOVE combined with AN ACTOR THAT I LOVE!

What a fantastic soundtrack that introduced me to even more music.

So tonight's song is really just a memory about the movie, the soundtrack and introducing Shannon to the movie itself.

P.S. I recently discovered a clothing brand called Rucking Fotten that produces limited edition licensed custom clothing. They have done True Romance (which is how I found them) as well as Gleaming the Cube and The Lost Boys. Yes, we have purchased every single one of those releases.
