Shannon’s Pick: Bent
“Can you help me I’m bent? I’m so scared that I’ll never get put back together.”
I must admit that I haven’t really “listened” to this song for quite a while. So tonight, when we danced, and I really “listened” I realized How Far I’ve come since its release in May 2000. When this album came out that’s the lyric that would always get to me. It just seemed with all the things that happened in my life that I’d never be put back together. What I have come to learn is that will the right person by your side you will get put back together, not because they put you back together but because they take the time to help you help yourself…..you just have to learn to give yourself the grace and patience you give to others.
Larry’s Perspective:
I honestly don't have a lot to say about this song. I've heard it a million times in our household, so I know it by heart.
I would classify this as a "second time around" song.
The first time would be Shannon dealing with childhood memories, the passing of her family members and becoming a mom at such a young age. Even though she was a young tough girl, everyone needs a support system. Especially those that constantly support others. Who helps the helpers?
The second would be her current health challenges.
Scouts Honor: This is not a song assigned to March 15th for any particular reason. We just categorized it under March Madness, found an open slot and put it on the list. The reason I say this is because of my favorite lyrics from the song and how they tie directly to last nights "Peace Of Mind" write up relative to my "company ladder":
"I started out clean but I'm jaded
Just phoning it in..."
