Shannon’s Perspecive:

“I’ll make it to the moon if I have to crawl.”

So, in looking up the lyrics tonight Larry and I both realized there was a part of this song we have been singing wrong for, well since the damn song came out.  That’s ok for several reasons. First and most importantly it was literally one word, but that one word completely changed the meaning of that line and made it more personal to us and second, it can be something else just for us.  I will share a lot of things here, but I still believe there should be some things that are just “ours”.  Yes, that means as we age and lose some of our memories these things will be lost as well but I’m ok with that.  I think it’s important in any relationship to hold dear those things that matter to you, and I believe some things are not meant to be shared with anyone outside of the couple.

P.S.  The lyric I included has nothing to do with the misheard word, but it does remind me of Larry.  As anyone who has spent any time with him knows he wants to travel to space and I truly believe he would make that happen even if he had to crawl.

Larry’s Pick: Scar Tissue

So this song has been in our rotation since 1999 - that's 25 years. And we've been together 30. So we grew up with the Californication record.

And those that know me personally would agree whole heartedly that I personify the "Sarcastic mister know-it-all" lyric.

This is one of those songs that is so catchy and floats right by as you sing it.

But I bet there is someone, someday that either has listened to it or will listen to it and has no idea it's about substance/drug abuse and fighting your way back. Without the song mentioning that one time.

I have met a few people in my life that have dealt with this, and continue to deal with it everyday.

Typing this tonight puts our fortune front and center. We did not have this problem as a couple. Our sons never fell victim to it. And whether that is great parenting, great friends our sons surrounded themselves with or plain naivety - I'll take it.

But I know every single person in the world has scar tissue "that I wish you saw..."
